It is hoped that an agreement to save a ferry service in Hampshire can be reached as it tries to avoid financial collapse.

Officials who run the Hayling Ferry previously warned that it would have to stop running its services between Portsmouth and Hayling Island, when the temporary relaxation of harbour levies come to an end.

However, it’s said that a new agreement with Langstone Harbour could keep the ferry financially afloat.

It includes increasing fares from April 2024 from ÂŁ3 per crossing to ÂŁ3.20 for foot passengers and ÂŁ3.40 for cyclists.

The harbour's levy of 50p per passenger will be reduced after the first 20,000 passengers.

The agreement still needs to be approved at a meeting of the harbour board, which is due to take place on Monday (25th September).
