Further heavy rain expected in the South this week
ANOTHER Met Office warning's issued for persistent rainfall on Friday
As much as 100 millimetres of rain could fall across the South in the space a few days this week.
The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning, which kicks in at 9.00pm tonight (Wednesday 4th September).
It now lasts until just before midnight tomorrow (Thursday 5th) - while a second has been issued for the whole of Friday (6th September).
We're being told to prepare for the risk of localised flooding and travel disruption.
Forecasters say rainfall totals of 15 to 30mm are expected widely, but the wettest areas could see 40 to 60mm through the whole of Friday.
There's also a chance that a few places see as much as 75 to 100mm.
We're warned to expect:
- A slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
- A small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Some communities could become cut off by flooded roads
- A small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
In their alert, the Met Office said:
"This heavy rain follows on from an expected wet day across some similar areas on Thursday which will increase the likelihood of impacts. There is also the potential for further spells of heavy rain across parts of the south over the weekend."
