A village hall in Hampshire has escaped serious damage after a fire in a nearby building.

Fire crews stopped the flames spreading from a garage next to Hamble Village Memorial Hall.

Around 60 firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 6.00pm on Wednesday.

The fire service said no injuries were reported.

A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the garage was destroyed and two nearby homes suffered damage from the heat and smoke.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
