Elderly woman 'pushed to the ground' during aggravated burglary in Southampton
Police say three men broke into the house and took a jewellery box
Police are investigating after an elderly woman was pushed to the ground during an aggravated burglary in Southampton.
Officers were called shortly after 10.20am yesterday morning (Thursday 30 May) to a report that three males had forced entry to a property on Pembrey Close by smashing the window of a rear door.
The occupant of the house, a woman in her 80s, was pushed to the ground and restrained by one of the males while the other two searched the house. A jewellery box was taken.
The only description we have of the males at the current time is that they were all wearing dark clothing. As soon as we have a more detailed description we will update you.
The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries on her feet, additional treatment for a heart condition has also been required following the incident.
We have been at the scene and in the area of the burglary since the incident was reported to us conducting enquiries, and would now like to hear from anyone we haven’t yet spoken to who may have information to assist our investigation.
Perhaps you live in the local area and saw suspicious activity yesterday morning at around 10.20am, or maybe you were driving through and have dash cam footage that captured three males wearing dark clothing? Or maybe you have spotted property in the area that looks as though it has been discarded or out of place?
Southampton West Inspector Andrew Proctor said: “Residential burglary is always an intrusive and traumatic crime for its victims, but the way in which this vulnerable victim was restrained as sentimental items were taken from her own home in broad daylight is particularly abhorrent.
“My officers have been in the area since the incident was reported to us and remain there today carrying out enquiries, we urge anyone with information, questions or concerns to please come and speak to them. We are doing everything we can to identify the people responsible for this crime.”
