Date revealed for return of iconic shopping name in Bournemouth
The former Debenhams building in the square is being restored
One of the original department store buildings in Bournemouth will reopen on August 7.
The former Debenhams in Bournemouth Square is going back to its 1915 name of Bobby's.
The building will reopen in stages with a number of independent shops, events and activities planned.
Developer Verve Properties said it was regenerating the building and uncovering 'beautiful' pieces of architecture that have been hidden for decades.
Copper domes will be repaired and a 1970s canopy is being replaced by original awnings.
The 1915 front entrance is being reintroduced and new ornate first floor balconies will be installed.
The developer said Bobby’s would not be a department store in the previous understanding of a single retailer.
Opening later in the year, the beauty hall will expand to include a traditional barber shop, treatment rooms and wellness activities.
Also in the initial opening will be an artist run space and a new gallery, an ice cream and coffee parlour, outdoor seating in the square and a sushi restaurant.
