Cyclist knocked off bike during Poole 'road rage' incident
The rider had challenged a driver for using a mobile
A cyclist has been knocked off his bike in Poole, in what police think is a suspected 'road rage' incident.
The rider was travelling along Herbert Avenue at around 5.20pm on Tuesday night (22nd November), when he passed a row of parked cars stopped at traffic lights.
He noticed one driver, in a dark blue hatchback, was using his phone and knocked on the window, telling him to put it down.
The driver shouted at the cyclist and followed him as traffic moved off.
They went down Northmere Road and into Sancreed Road, where the car collided with the back of the back.
The rider, a man in his 50s wearing a high-vis jacket and with lights on the front and back of his bike, was knocked off but didn't suffer serious injuries.
The car then made off from the scene without stopping.
PC Matthew Batter, of Poole police, said:
“This was a very distressing incident for the cyclist involved and we are carrying out a number of enquiries into this matter.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage to please get in touch.
“I would also urge the driver involved to please do the right thing and come forward so we can take your account.”
