A man has appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court accused of murdering another man in a brawl in a pub in Chichester.

A 57-year-old man from South Yorkshire died from serious head injuries at the Dolphin and Anchor in West Street on Thursday night.

30-year-old Kieran Egan from Birmingham was remanded in custody to appear before Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.

Speaking on the case, Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Joseph from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team paid tribute to the man who died.

"Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the victim in this investigation, who has lost his life in such tragic circumstances", she said.

"We are continuing to appeal for information to build a clear picture of the events of that evening."
