A man's been punched in the face and his car hit with a hammer in a suspected road rage attack in Winchester.

A van and a BMW were involved on Badger Farm Road during yesterday morning's rush hour.

Police are appealing for witnesses, including a man walking his dog who intervened.

In a statement, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a road rage incident in Winchester.

"It took place around 8.30am on Monday 5 February, in Badger Farm Road, near the junction with The Croft.

"It was reported that there was an altercation in traffic between two men – the driver of a Renault Trafic van and the driver of a BMW 320i.

"The driver of the BMW, a man in his 20s, reported being punched in the face, which caused bruising.

"He also reported that the van driver hit his BMW car with a hammer.

"We have conducted initial enquiries, but we would now like to hear from anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"This incident took place during rush hour traffic and we know that other people got involved to stop this altercation.

"In particular, we would like to hear from a male dog walker who intervened in this incident, as they may have more information about what happened.

"We would also like to hear from any motorists who passed this scene and may have dashcam footage that could assist our enquiries.
