Bognor man jailed for stabbing man in unprovoked attack
Police say the victim was lucky not to suffer life-threatening injuries
A Bognor man who stabbed another man in the chest – narrowly avoiding his major organs – has been jailed for a total of nine years.
Michail Michailov attacked the 52-year-old at a flat in Bersted Green Court on the afternoon of February 10th last year, while both were drinking along with two other people.
He was rushed to hospital with a 10cm chest wound, where it was confirmed the knife narrowly missed his heart and lungs.
Michailov had already fled the scene when police were called, but he was later located following enquiries and arrested.
The 53-year-old, of Upper Bognor Road was charged with grievous bodily harm.
In police interview he answered “no comment” to all questions, but admitted the offence in court.
At Lewes Crown Court on April 13th, he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with an extended period of five years.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Ash O’Mahony, said:
"This was a seemingly unprovoked attack on the victim, who is fortunate to have not suffered life-changing or life-threatening injuries.
"Nevertheless, there was clear intent by Michailov to harm him, and the courts have recognised this by the sentence imposed."
