Attempted murder arrest after man attacked in Southampton
Police were called to Northam last night (May 14th)
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an assault on a man in Southampton.
The victim, in his 40s, was taken to hospital in a serious condition after being assaulted in Kent Street in Northam on Tuesday evening (May 14th).
Police were called to the scene by ambulance crews at just after 8pm.
The 35-year-old was initially detained on suspicion of assault, with Hampshire Police saying that the charge was changed once the force realised the victim's injuries were more serious than initially thought.
A 34-year-old woman from Southampton was also arrested on suspicion of intentionally assisting/encouraging the commission of an offence.
Both remained in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
Officers are appealing for information from anyone who was in the Kent Street area between 7.30 and 8pm on Tuesday and saw an altercation taking place or any suspicious behaviour.
They are looking for those who may have caught footage of the incident on their dash cam, mobile phone, or on CCTV.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:
"Officers will remain at the scene today conducting enquiries.
"We would like to reassure local residents that all those involved are known to each other and we don’t believe there to be a wider risk to the public at the current time. "
