Arrest after police officer and PCSO assaulted in Winchester

Two city rangers were attacked in the same incident

A man has been arrested after a police officer and a PCSO were assaulted in Winchester.

Police were called to the High Street at around 4pm on Thursday (August 17th) following reports a man had been detained in connection with a suspected theft at Marks and Spencer.

Both rangers were reportedly assaulted and sustained scratches and bruising.

A PCSO also had homophobic remarks shouted at them.

A 44-year-old man from Winchester was arrested on suspicion of two assaults occasioning actual bodily harm, two common assaults against an officer, public order, and theft.

He remained in custody as of midday on Friday.
