Council bosses in Southampton are urging households to make a 'conscious effort' to reuse or recycle their waste.

The amount of rubbish in the city being sent to landfill has fallen to 4.3% over the last 12 months (2022/2023).

That's down from 6.5%t the year before (2021/2022).

On a social media post, Southampton City Council said: "Once an item is in landfill, it cannot be reused or recycled, so it's important that we try and make a conscious effort to keep what we send to landfill minimal."

"Before you throw an item away, please consider whether it can be reused, recycled or donated."
