West Mercia police have told us they do not want to see any more young people in court over knife crime incidents.

They were at Redditch Train Station on Tuesday (Nov 12th) where they used a knife arch to scan train passengers.

Police have also been visiting schools in the area to explain the dangers of carrying a knife.

It is part of a campaign called 'Sceptre' which is a national initiative running from the 11th-17th November 2024.

'Sceptre' has been born from the number of knife crime incidents involving children.

Chief Inspector, Dave King, at West Mercia Police told us: "Nationally people are seeing some of the horrific incidents that happen with knife crime.

"This is an opportunity for us to engage with the public, raising awareness of knife crime and catch and convict those involved," he said.

As part of the campaign, knife bins are being placed across the area so that blades can be surrendered and disposed of safely.

"We do not want to see children go in front of a court.

"We just need to educate them on what that can lead to. In terms of convictions, and, at worse, jail time," Chief Inspector Dave King said.

Locations of the bins are as followed:

Telford- Malinsgate Police Station, Telford, TF3 4HW

Kidderminster- Habberley Road, Kidderminster, DY11 6AN

Shrewsbury- Clive Road, Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, SY2 5RW

Hereford- Bath Street, Hereford HR1 2HT

Worcester- Castle Street, Worcester, WR1 3QX
