Staffordshire Police have launched an investigation after two teenagers died in a single-vehicle collision.

Officers first received reports of an incident on Cannock Road near Penkridge just before midnight on Saturday night (May 25th).

When responders arrived on the scene, they found a Ford Ka with four people inside requiring immediate medical attention.

Responders from the West Midlands Ambulance Service were first to arrive on the scene and had called on the force to assist in their efforts.

However, despite their best efforts, the driver of the car - who was an 18-year-old man, and the front seat passenger, who was a 17-year-old boy - were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two passengers in the back of the car, who were believed to be 17-year-old girls were taken to hospital to be treated for their serious injuries.

Staffordshire Police have now opened an investigation into the incident and have appealed to the public to get in touch with any information they may have.

Speaking on their investigation, Sergeant Richard Moors from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the young people who have tragically lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries.

"Specialist officers are supporting their families at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected. A full and detailed investigation is now under way to establish the cause of the collision."

Those who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have any relevant information from around the time of the crash, is being urged to get in touch with the force as soon as possible.

Anyone who may have any information can speak to Staffordshire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident reference number 813 from May 25th.
