Emergency services are continuing to search for a boy, 15, who was last seen in Lodge Farm Reservoir in Netherton, Dudley, last night.
They were called at around 6pm and closed Highbridge Road while searches took place.
West Midlands Fire Service has called the situation "heart-breaking" and said it is a "stark reminder of the dangers of open water."
Area Manager Alec Hudson said: “This is heart-breaking for the family and friends of the missing boy. They, and the local community, are in our thoughts and prayers.
“In spite of the extensive multi-agency search, which continued into the night, as of 8am Wednesday morning (24 July) the boy had yet to be found. We have been using all of the available resources at our disposal, including a specialist submersible drone from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service."
Mr Hudson continued: “Whatever the circumstances surrounding the boy’s disappearance, this incident is a stark reminder of the dangers of open water – especially as the summer holidays get underway."
Fire officers are urging people to take care near rivers, canals, reservoirs, and lakes, saying currents can be stronger than they appear and dangers may be hidden beneath the water's surface.
