Increased patrols in area
Det Insp Joe Davenport, leading the investigation, said: “We’re at a very early stage of the investigation and are working hard to understand what has happened and why.”
We have increased patrols in the area and uniformed officers will be in the area today to offer reassurance to our community and listen to their concerns.
Stop and search
West Midlands Police say they'll keep stop and search powers in place until tomorrow morning.
Previously the Section 60 Powers, which allows officers to stop and search people without reasonable grounds were due to expire at 10 am this morning, but thats been extended until 8 am on Wednesday (19.03).
Speaking yesterday, Inspector Phil Upton, Response Manager, at Walsall Police, said: “We don’t use section 60 powers lightly, but we will use all our powers to ensure the safety of people in the area. We will have increased patrols in the area and uniformed officers.
“These powers allow us to stop and search people we may suspect may be involved in violence, or carrying weapons, without the need to have reasonable grounds. Our aim is to keep everyone safe.”
