Disruption to trains from Birmingham New Street after fire damages cables
Services between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley were affected on Saturday
Rail services between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley are facing major disruption, after a fire damaged signalling cables.
The fire started overnight (12 October) near to tracks at Bescot Stadium, causing a signal fault on the line.
Network Rail said engineers were working urgently to repair a 25 metre section of cables.
Disruption to services from Birmingham New Street to Rugeley Trent Valley, via Walsall, is expected to continue for much of Saturday.
Network Rail added engineers would need to "fully assess further damage caused to equipment" after repairs to the cables were completed.
