A man's been jailed for threatening a woman with a fake gun and trying to rob her in her home in Witney.
Andreas Hegedus broke into a home on Corn Street at 5am on 29 December 2023.
Hegedus, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, demanded money from the occupant, a woman in her twenties, while threatening her with an imitation firearm. He then fled the scene.
Thames Valley Police quickly identified Hegedus as a suspect. He was arrested on 31 December and charged with the offences the following day.
The 24 year old of Burford Road, Witney, was jailed for six years at Oxford Crown Court on Friday 24th May.
Hegedus pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Luke Bessant said:
“This was an incident that was extremely distressing for the victim. She was awoken by Andreas Hegedus in the early hours of the morning and threatened with what she would have thought was a viable firearm, albeit we later established it was an imitation firearm, this would have been absolutely terrifying.
“I am pleased that with the weight of evidence against him, Andreas Hegedus pleaded guilty and has been jailed for six years.”
