Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Mathew Barber hoping for second successive term
The election of a Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner will take place on Thursday May 2, 2024, it has been confirmed.
Current Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber was elected in 2021 with a majority of nearly 80,000.
Prior to becoming Police and Crime Commissioner Barber served as Deputy PCC for the force between 2017 and 2021.
As deputy PCC he was responsible for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire.
Police and crime commissioners are elected every four years, but the previous 2020 election was postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This means that Barber has only served as Police and Crime Commissioner for three years as a pose to the usual four.
The election of a Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner will take place on Thursday May 2, 2024, it has been confirmed.
The counting of votes is “likely” to be on May 3, the day after polling day, Buckinghamshire Council said.
Speaking about his time as PCC Barber said: "I never take an election for granted and I'm out there talking to residents all the time about what there concerns are.
"There's certainly a lot over the last three years we've managed to achieve that I'm incredibly proud of.
"Its been a real privilege to do this job and work so closely with Thames Valley Police on behalf of the public in this role, but there is a lot more to do.
"I'm very clear about what my plan is for the future and I hope Thames Valley will trust me with another term to continue that work."
