A spooky singer from Oxfordshire who famously ‘married and divorced a ghost’ says she won’t be looking for love with a ghost again, to avoid ‘repeating history’.

Brocarde is from near Witney, she creates music inspired by the supernatural and Halloween, as she has a gift of being able to communicate with the spirits of the dead.

She tells us what the spooky season is like for her at this time of year, she says “Halloween is a bit of a lifestyle choice for people like me and I love how the world embraces people like me around this time of year.

I’m so busy and never been to so many places in such a short period of time, and I’ve just got back from America where I attended some amazing events.”

Do ghosts really exist?

Well, Brocarde said: “I feel like it’s the mystery and uncertainty, and the fact that no-one can conclusively without a shadow of a doubt prove that ghosts exist, and I think that makes it such an interesting topic for everyone.

“You get those people who love to be sceptical and love to say that you’re absolutely crazy. They love to test you and put what you believe under scrutiny, and I feel that’s what keep the topic alive.

“You’ve got people that dedicate their lives to finding conclusive evidence of paranormal activity and sometimes it could be something flying across the room or a shadow in a photo.”

‘Edwardo was a one-off’

Brocarde says she was visited by Edwardo, the ghost of a Victorian solider, who wooed her. After a ‘short whirlwind romance’ the couple tied the knot on Halloween two years ago.

However, ‘the marriage was turbulent’, and after seeking marriage guidance from a spiritual medium, Brocarde concluded that after six short months of marriage it was time to call in an exorcist and banish her husband forever.

She said: “When someone asks me what type of men you attract, the answer is always dead ones.

But I think Edwardo was perhaps a little bit of a one-off in terms of dating ghosts because we can’t repeat history over and over again, that would be a bit of a bad life choice.”

Music inspired by the supernatural

Brocarde arrived started her music career in 2019 with her debut single Last Supper, where she was hailed as “One to Watch” by Planet Rock Magazine, and secured airplay on Kerrang!.

Brocarde takes inspiration from Halloween for her music, and she said: “I feel like when you’re a singer songwriter you will draw inspiration from things around you, be it human or ghosts.

“I feel like I’ve always been quite into the horror aesthetics and that genre as a whole because of the dark haunting imagery and that kind of sound that goes with it. I make rock music, and I feel like the two world are quite closely connected.

“Obviously going through such a dramatic paranormal encounter, naturally inspires everything that you do as it’s very life-changing and it seeps through into my music. I wrote a song when I got married to a ghost and another that was completely different when I got divorced to a ghost.”
