Police renew appeal after man died from injuries in Oxfordshire crash

Officers investigating a serious road traffic collision in Chiselhampton are renewing an appeal for witnesses and dash-cam footage after the man injured in the incident sadly died in hospital.

At approximately 9.25pm last Thursday (March 7th), a black Vauxhall Astra overtook an unmarked police vehicle on the wrong side of the road on the B480 in Chiselhampton.

Officers illuminated their blue lights to signal for the vehicle to stop, but it continued at speed into the village.

The Astra then collided with a wall in the village and the two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital.

The driver, a man aged in his twenties, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but tragically, has since passed away of his injuries.

The passenger was also treated in hospital, but has since been discharged.

The family of the man who has died are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the collision occurring following police contact.

Inspector Scott Long of the Roads Policing Unit said:

“First and foremost, my thoughts and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police are with the family and friends of the man who has sadly died.

“I am today renewing our appeal to anybody who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please get touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I would again ask for any drivers who were in the area to please check their dash-cams and contact us if it has captured anything that may assist our investigation."
