A man from Henley-on-Thames has been jailed for multiple offences, including those against a woman over seven years, which have left her with long term damage.

The victim sustained serious injuries to the head and still lives with the effects.

Alberto de Andrade Abreu, aged 42, formerly of Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames was sentenced on Friday 21 March at Oxford Crown Court to five years and five months in prison.

He pleaded guilty, at the same court, on Monday 6 January, to two counts of actual bodily harm and one count each of coercive controlling behaviour, threatening with a bladed article, witness intimidation and possession of a class B drug, namely cannabis.

He was also given a restraining order against the victim, for life.

Between July 2017 and July 2024, de Andrade Abreu abused the victim, a woman in her fifties.

During this time, the victim sustained serious injuries to the head and still lives with the effects.

De Andrade Abreu was arrested and charged on 22 July 2024.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sophie Hogg said:

“The victim in this investigation was subject to horrific abuse and I am pleased that she finally felt able to come forward and see the investigation through to court, despite her fears.

“She was happy with the conviction and, therefore, so am I.

“Thames Valley Police is committed to tackling all forms of violence against women and girls and we will relentlessly pursue and prosecute offenders and put them before the courts where they belong.”
