Around one hundred brightly lit tractors covered by Christmas lights and decorations will take to the streets in Banbury to raise money for a local hospice.

Tonight’s tractor run hopes to collect over £50,000 for Katherine House Hospice to help those that need care.

The event started nine years ago with 26 tractors taking part, now they have around one hundred.

Roseann Thompson is from the charity and says, “it just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year.

“This is the most anticipated event of Christmas in Banbury.”

'Everybody gets involved to make it a special occasion'

It costs the hospice around £14,500 every day to keep their services running which is why fundraising is so vital to them.

Ms Thompson said: “It's obviously a really difficult time for people who are in the Hospice, but it means that we can make it extra special.

“We've been known to bring Christmas forward for people, our catering team has worked really hard to make sure that there's lovely food and drink for all of our patients and the families.”

The festive convoy of tractors will depart from Spring Hill Farm, Barford St Michael at around 5pm and will take to the roads travelling through the local villages into Banbury, also driving past the hospice.

Ms Thompson said: “I went down to speak to one of our patients yesterday, and he's hoping to pop outside and watch the tractors go by.

“So, everybody just gets involved in as much as they can to really make it a special occasion.”

There will be a road closure in place around Banbury Cross for approximately one hour between 6pm and 7pm.

No other roads will be closed, but there may be delays to traffic as the convoy passes through the local areas and villages.
