Gary Rowett confirmed new Oxford United manager
Rowett has previously managed Millwall and Birmingham City
Oxford United has confirmed the appointment of Gary Rowett as their new manager.
Rowett brings Championship managerial experience as he has previously managed Birmingham City, Derby County, Stoke City.
Alongside this, he spent a four-year stint at Millwall between 2019 to 2023, where he led the Lions to eighth, 11th, ninth, and eighth.
Tomorrow will be the first match in charge for Rowett as he is set to face high-flyers Leeds United away at Elland Road.
The appointment of Rowett comes after the club decided to pull the trigger on Des Buckingham.
The U’s have been in a tough run of form lately, winning only one game out of the last 15 which leaves them only one point away from the relegation zone.
New manager, Gary Rowett will be hoping to avoid two relegations on the bounce after his last job at Birmingham City seen the club go down to League One.
Oxford United Chairman, Grant Ferguson, said: “Following a thorough and diligent recruitment process, I am delighted that Gary Rowett has agreed to join us as Head Coach.
“It was immediately clear from the discussions we had with him that Gary perfectly matched the vision and long-term objectives that we have for the Club.
“Every decision taken is with the best interests of Oxford United in mind and we are confident that Gary will be instrumental in fulfilling our ambitions this season and beyond.
“We look forward to working alongside and supporting Gary to help us achieve our goals.”
