Cassington facility back to full capacity after repairs following explosion
The lightening strike in October 2023 meant repair work was needed
After an explosion last October at a food waste facility in Oxfordshire the owners say they're back up to full capacity.
It's after an explosion lit up the sky back on October 2nd 2023.
During a storm a freak event saw a lightening bolt hit one of the Severn Trent Green Power's food waste digesters in Oxfordshire.
At the time Cassington resident Navreet Day told us what her family saw:
"All of a sudden we heard incredibly loud thunder, then a flash of lightening and then the most alarming thing, an explosion."
Her family thought there had been a bomb go off:
"We stuck our head outside the front door and the sky was a really vivid orange."
Emergency services attended and at it's height 40 firefighters from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue attended the blaze.
The company owners now say repairs have been completed and the facility is back to full capacity.
Andrew Simm, Operations Director at Severn Trent Green Power, said:
“This was a short-lived incident. The incident was dealt with quickly and safely with the support of the emergency services, who we would like to thank again for all their brilliant help. There have been no ongoing ramifications outside of our day-to-day operations.
“Through the hard work of our teams, the facility was back up and running at full capacity earlier in the summer following the repair work to refurbish and replace the digester tank roofs that were damaged in the incident. While repairs took place, the facility continued to operate at reduced capacity, ensuring we were still able to accept food waste for the local authorities and customers who rely on our service.”
