More volunteers are needed for a life-saving Yorkshire coast charity.

Samaritans of Scarborough, which is marking its 50th birthday this year, is asking for help at its shop on Hanover Road.

It costs ÂŁ35,000 a year to keep the service running and the profits from the shop are a vital part of that funding.

We're told staffing is an issue, as it's difficult for the volunteers to find enough time.

So, people who have a couple of hours a week to spare are being asked to drop in and have a chat about helping out.

Vice-Director and Treasurer at Samaritans of Scarborough, Libby Lorton-Gilbert, said more people are using the shop:

""Everything's gone up. I think the people are shopping has changed a little bit, as people do have a good awareness that things are going to be tight and that charity shops are one of the best places to go shopping.

"We're open 10am till 2pm Tuesday to Thursday and 10am till 3pm on Friday and Saturday."
