Yorkshire Ambulance Service urges people to stay safe around fireworks
It says it sees an increase in call-outs at this time of year
Organisations across North Yorkshire are urging people to stay safe with fireworks this weekend.
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service says it sees an increase in call outs at this time of year, in many cases for minor injuries, where they are not needed.
Dr Steven Dykes, is its Deputy Medical Director and said:
"The urgent emergency care system is really busy at the moment. We're asking people to look after themselves and to stay safe. If they do get injured there are some simple first aid advice to look after themselves.
"Generally we see a lot of patients phoning us with very minor burns that could be dealt with with simple first aid maneuvers. We do see some really life threatening conditions so this is a reminder that fireworks and bonfires can be really dangerous.
"The vast majority of calls to us are minor burns and the simple first aid measures that you need and should take are the use of cold running water for 20 minutes. If you're not sure of what to do then you can go onto 111 online or phone 111.
"It's so we're saving those resources. There are lots of other places where people can go for their healthcare and the best way to access those is through 111 online or through phoning 111 but remember that simple first aid is the first port of call."
