The chairman of York City has said he is willing to sell his 51% share in the club back to the Supporters Trust, amid concern about its direction.

The Trust said it has had written confirmation from Glen Henderson that he would trigger a buy-back clause, after taking over in June this year.

The board at the Trust has agreed that it would be in the best of interests of the club, and is now looking at potential bids.

In a statement, it revealed it would explore crowdfunding to achieve 100% fan ownership, or a consortium of multiple investors.

The Trust is inviting bids for a majority shareholder in the club too, and has asked potential investors to get in touch before January 6 2023.

It's statement read: "The Trust board are extremely disappointed that despite best efforts, things haven’t worked out with Glen as hoped.

"We are determined to learn from our mistakes and find a way forward that all supporters can get behind. Whilst the football club has faced many recent challenges, significant positive changes have been introduced and we are confident that given time the club will flourish.

"Now more than ever, we need supporters to come together as a united force."
