Two questions were posed to the electorate of Whitby yesterday (Monday 13 June) when a parish poll was carried out in the town.

The questions posed in the poll and the results are:

Should all new build and additional housing in Whitby parish be restricted to full time local occupation as a primary residence only and forever (in perpetuity)?

Voters that answered yes: 2,111

Voters that answered no: 157

Do you want to stay in the same area committee as Scarborough in the new North Yorkshire unitary council?

Voters that answered yes: 253

Voters that answered no: 1,982

The turnout for the poll was 22.72%.

There were 71 rejected votes.

Scarborough Borough Council says the outcome of the poll is no more and no less than an expression of the views of the electorate of the parish who have voted in the poll and is not binding on any organisation.
