Whitby Rugby Club are doing a final push for donations to help improve its facilities for the community.

It is attempting to raise £20,000 as, like many other sport clubs, has been impacted by the pandemic.

It is looking to repair the clubhouse roof and to make the building more accessible for people with disabilities.

On its crowdfunder page, the club has raised nearly £10,000 so far.

Bruce Reed, who is from Whitby Rugby Club, said:

"One of the main things is that it stops all of our facilities getting water damage from the weather. It also enables us to spend more of the money we usually spend on things away from the repairs that need to be done on the roof and we can spend it on actually providing better facilities for the town.

"There's a couple of areas where access is limited and there are several areas of steps where we're looking to add ramps and varies bits on to, and we're looking to create the doors more accessible to allow people to get in and out easier and move about the area easier.

"The people of Whitby have always and are very generous with their money and time for the club as we have been for everybody. This is just one step in the road where hopefully we will be able to pay everybody back tenfold with what we can provide for our community if they can help us here."
