A Whitby resident with a heart condition is taking on a challenge this month to raise money for charity.

Joe Plant is walking 100 miles for the British Heart Foundation and says he has been overwhelmed by the support already.

He has got a target to raise £175 but that has already been smashed with around £310 being donated so far.

Joe said:

"Obviously I've got a heart condition so it's a massive challenge for me but it's something that I want to do to help give something back to the people that have helped me.

"I've been walking everyday for quite some time anyway. I try and get in what I can each day. I've had fantastic help from local GPs and nurses, Scarborough Hospital staff and consultants. They've put me in a place where I can do something and hopefully I can achieve it.

"I've got to say I can do the challenge but it's amazing how much people have donated so far. Big, big thank you to them people as well as the people who are supporting me throughout this challenge.

"The British Heart Foundation fund over £100 million of research each year. Through the pandemic now as well they've lost a lot of donations and the more we can do to help, the better survival rates will be and you never know, you might save somebody in your household, family or your street."

Anyone who wishes to donate to support Joe's challenge can do so here.
