Organisers of Whitby Regatta are looking for more committee members.

It is wanting volunteers who can dedicate the time to help with the planning of one of the town's biggest events.

Mike Nightingale, a vice-chair of Whitby Regatta, said: "We meet once a month and we'll start to look at this year's Regatta and probably even think about next year's about everything we want to put on, so if we want the Red Arrows or to bring some bands or events on the West Cliff. Obviously all those have to be contacted and contracts have to be signed.

"As well as a big event plan that has to be put together now with all the risk assessments and all the details that has to be submitted to Scarborough Borough Council, it takes us all year. We have those meetings and then we have little sub-meetings after that and we have meetings with the rowing club. There's quite a lot of doing work as I call it.

"There's two sides; we want volunteers to help on the weekend, which is great, but we'd like people also to think about the longer term about how they could contribute to doing some of the things that happen behind-the-scenes, but actually this enables the Regatta to take place. so we're looking for all of those sorts of people."
