England take on Spain in the last eight of the Women's Euros tonight, with Whitby's Beth Mead looking to increase her goal tally.

She has already scored five times for the Lionesses and has become a frontrunner in the race for the Golden Boot.

Philip Nedley was Beth's first coach in Hinderwell, where she grew up, and he said: "Personally I want her to get the Golden Boot and I want her to score in every game she's there but being the team player that she is, I think she'll be happy if they go on and win it and they play well.

"I'm immensely proud. When she first came as a very young girl and she started our Saturday morning football club and to see her progress, take the world by storm and to be so impressive, it's an absolutely immense feeling to be a part of it.

"You can see she had some talent but she also had a tremendous attitude and spirit and it's that sort of thing that makes the difference.

"I just want to wish her and the team all the best in the upcoming games. Do what you've done so far, it's looking like you're enjoying it, play as a team and you're making Hinderwell so proud, we're immensely, immensely proud of her and just keep going.

"The Lionnesses have the world cup qualifiers straight after the Euros and you know, a good Euros challenge and winning that will be beneficial for them to take it forward, give them the confidence to win the world cup. They've got the players, team and the manager and I think they can actually go that far now.

"We've got flags in the village and you know you go for a pint in the local pubs we're not talking about signings, we're talking about how well Beth's done so that's the way the conversations have changed in our little village that Beth's the main talking point."
