Whitby Lions hopes attendance records are broken at Boxing Day dip
It's taking place at Whitby bandstand on Pier Road
It is hoped the attendance at the Boxing Day dip in Whitby will beat last year's record-breaker.
There were over 230 people taking part in the event where you go for a splash in the north sea.
It will be happening on the 26th at Whitby bandstand on Pier Road, opposite the RNLI Museum and it is being organised by the town's Lions Club.
Brian Harrison is from there and said: "It's a lovely, traditional event. It's been going on for 48 years. What it involves is people getting dressed up in fancy dress and raising money for charity by running into the north sea. We're well supported in the town and people come from all over the place.
"People travel on Boxing Day specifically for the dip. Last year we had like 250 people go into the sea which was fantastic and it's our biggest event to date. We have thousands of people watching by the piers and all the money raised goes to local charities that we distribute to throughout the year.
"People dress up from Santas, Batmans, Robins, dinosaurs, sharks, whales and all sorts of things. A couple of years ago we had a fancy dress wedding proposal which was quite good and she said 'yes'. We've had traffic cones and they do a big team event."
