Yorkshire and the Humber has been given the worst possible rating for air pollution on an official scale.

UK Air said pollution levels in the region were "very high" on Thursday morning, and gave it the rare top score.

People have been advised to reduce physical exertion outdoors due to the poor quality of air, while adults and children with heart and lung problems and older people were told they "should avoid strenuous physical activity".

Five other parts of the country- including London and the South East- have been moved into the "high" category.
