Turkish man in Scarborough 'overwhelmed' by support
People have donated enough aid to send seven trucks worth to Turkey already
A man from Turkey says he has been 'overwhelmed' after people in Scarborough donated enough to send seven trucks worth of aid so far.
Mehmet Kaya has been living in the town for 23 years and is originally from Şanlıurfa in Turkey.
He said: "There's still loads of rubbles and we believe there's still a lot of dead bodies underneath the rubble even now over a month on. It was so big but believe me, not any other country could cope with it but they're doing the best that they can.
"They're trying to reach people and removing rubbles etc. They're even setting up tents all over, even on farming fields, wherever they can find the space. We're still continuing to support them as much as we can.
"Overwhelming I'm proud to be living in this town for so many years. The people's donations has been outstanding and very generous. Until now we've sent seven trucks of gear out already.
"I would like to say thank you to every individual in Scarborough. We're still accepting donations with the main priorities of soft, cuddly toys, little playing toys, baby milk, nappies, ladies underwear, men's underwear, dry food and non-perishables that don't run out of date very quickly."
Anyone who wishes to donate can do so at Mehmet's convenience store on Victoria Road called 'Stop and Shop' near Clock Handyman.
