Filey is hosting one of the country's biggest motorsports events and spectators are welcome.

Trackrod Rally Yorkshire incorporates the penultimate round of three of the UK's most prominent championships.

It starts and finishes in Filey tonight and tomorrow and takes in the North York Moors forests with chances to view the cars and chat to the drivers.

Rod Parkin, Course Clerk at Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, said: "It's a car rally that uses the forestry roads as what we call 'special stages', so competitors are timed to the 10th of a second and they use the public highway, fully in accordance with the law, to connect between the stages and a service area because halfway through the event, we'll allow them to have a look at the car, refuel and make sure that everything's safe.

"It's one of the biggest events in the country. We're part of three major championships and that tends to attract a lot of people.

"We have to make specific arrangements with the forestry and spectator areas. Please stay in those areas because if you start wandering around, you'll put yourself at risk, you'll put the drivers at risk and obviously we'd have to stop the event to go and make sure everything's alright, so obey the signs please but most of all enjoy yourselves. Have a good weekend."

Action this year, some 57 miles of forest tracks, takes place over the ‘classic’ North York Moors stages of Dalby, Cropton, Gale Rigg, Staindale and Langdale.

The event begins on Friday evening and finishes on Saturday afternoon, along Filey beach.
