Harrogate hospital has reported three Covid deaths in the biggest daily increase in six months.

NHS figures published on Friday show two deaths were reported on 1 September and one on 2 September. It means the hospital’s Covid death toll since the pandemic began now stands at 184.

It also means there have been five deaths in just over two weeks after the hospital went more than four months without any Covid fatalities.

And before Friday, the last time the hospital reported more than one death on a single day was on 9 March when three deaths occurred.

Meanwhile, Harrogate’s weekly infection rate currently stands at 372 per 100,000 people – above the North Yorkshire and England averages of 332 and 312.

The rate has been climbing steadily in recent weeks after falling sharply in mid-July when it reached a record level of 536.

Elsewhere in North Yorkshire, Selby currently has the highest rate at 392, while Richmondshire has the lowest with 242.
