Thirsk, Malton and Filey MP backs Boris Johnson as Prime Minister
MPs have agreed to refer Boris Johnson for a parliamentary investigation into whether he lied to the Commons about lockdown parties
The MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey says we need to move on from 'partygate'.
It is as Boris Johnson is facing another investigation over parties at Downing Street during lockdown.
MPs have agreed a committee should look into whether the Prime Minister misled them.
Earlier the government dropped attempts to oppose it and gave Tory MPs a free vote.
Kevin Hollinrake said:
"People I speak to knew some time ago that Boris Johnson in his workplace on his birthday was presented with a birthday cake which wasn't even eaten. I don't think it's a serious enough offence, despite the fact that police believe it was a breach of the guidelines, to warrant the resignation of a Prime Minister.
"The workplace guidelines were very different. I sit in office here in Parliament, there's two offices adjacent to me and had they come into my office and presented me with a birthday cake on my birthday, would I have thought this a breach of the guidelines? I really wouldn't.
"The Met Police have a tough job to do. They've decided it's a breach of the guidelines and so be it. The Prime Minister's paid the fine, apologised profusley and humbly many times. I think we should move on."
