Thirsk and Malton MP calls on Home Secretary to reverse Linton asylum decision
Kevin Hollinrake says he is concerned about plans for an asylum centre.
The MP for Thirsk and Malton Kevin Hollinrake has met with the Home Secretary - to raise concerns about plans for an asylum reception centre in Linton-on-Ouse.
The plans - which could see asylum seekers being flown 5,000 miles to Africa for processing - have been criticised by refugee charities.
Mr Hollinrake has also written to Priti Patel to express his opposition to the plans.
He says he is concerned that a "small rural village" is not an appropriate place to house 1,500 young, male asylum seekers.
Mr Hollinrake said: "I have today written to and met with the Home Secretary regarding the proposed asylum site at Linton-on-Ouse.
"While I am supportive of providing safe harbour and government accommodation for those fleeing persecution, I do not believe that the small rural village of Linton-on-Ouse is the appropriate place to house up to 1500 young, male asylum seekers."
