The Script: 'We're looking forward to performing in Scarborough'
The band's frontman, Danny O'Donoghue, says he loves the town and it's a great place
The frontman of The Script says he is looking forward to being in Scarborough and fans need to bring their voices.
They will be at the Open Air Theatre on the 14th of July performing their greatest hits.
The band – Danny O'Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power – headlined the venue in 2018 and their fans have been asking for them to return ever since.
Since arriving on the scene in 2008, The Script have sold more than 30 million records and given us such global hits as We Cry, The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, For The First Time, Hall Of Fame (featuring will.i.am) and Superheroes.
Danny said: "I just remember that the crowd were a lot of louder than they had been for some of the shows previously and I didn't know if we had a lot of fans in this concentrated area, if they were drunk or if they just loved singing the songs. I think it was all of the above. We're really looking forward to coming back down after all that we've been through and re-igniting our love affair with Scarborough.
"I always pray for rain because if I don't get it it's still sunny which means I still win, but if it does rain then there's a sense of madness in the air because people are like 'alright, screw it. We're already wet let's go' and that definitely means I'm getting into the audience because I'm like, if you're getting wet then I'm getting wet too, so I'll do a few songs in the audience getting rained on.
"I had fish and chips in Scarborough but I can't remember the name of the place but it was an award-winning place where you have to go all the time. I remember a few of the bars but I remember the hangover more than the bars in fairness but I absolutely love Scarborough. It's such a great place.
Danny's been speaking to Greatest Hits Radio's Karen Liu:
Danny added: "Fans need to bring their voices and lyric sheets because it's almost like going to church. Bring the lyrics because we're going through all of the hits and one by one we're going to knock them dead. I've never had this before but my ears have been ringing at the end of the show because the crowds have been so loud, not because of the music.
"We actually do go into the audience a lot, right in the middle of everybody. I've been known for surfing across crowds, putting a boat on the front row, getting into the boat and then letting them take me wherever it is. It's just really fun. It's a great vibe in the open air.
"We have a set where we try and get the thousands of the fans to part, make a tiny little tunnel and then I'll walk and make my way into it and create a little circle. If it's at night time then we get lit by everybody and their phones."
