People on the Yorkshire Coast are being urged to spend their money locally.

It is as Christmas is approaching and many will want to buy last minute presents.

It is also to stop people from driving to other tiers and areas to do their shopping.

Kerry Carruthers, Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Coast BID, said:

"I think by shopping local what we're doing is really thanking our local businesses more than anything else. They've had to adapt and invest so much to keep their businesses here. Our business owners are employing local people and that's why we should be supporting local businesses in our areas.

"We have fantastic independence; we've got manufacturers, we've got so much from your local greengrocers, your butchers and craft makers in the area. So there's everything that people would ever wish to buy here.

"The support that they've been giving the community, certainly from the hospitality sector whereby people have been running community kitchens and giving back so much of their time. This would just be a fantastic thank you for those businesses to be spending local now more than ever."
