Six more vaccine hubs will be set up in North Yorkshire by Christmas Eve.

That is from the county's Clinical Commissioning Group who say it is to help distribute the Covid-19 jab.

It brings the total number of centres across North Yorkshire to 12.

Amanda Bloor, Accountable Officer of the CCG, said:

"Delivering the vaccination programme and the significant emotion that this has brought has been a long time coming. Particularly given the news over the weekend about the South East of England it actually can't come soon enough and to roll-out the programme.

"Delivering the vaccination and setting up to get the sites ready to deliver the vaccination is a significant logistical operation. We will continue to look at additional sites and these will be developed over the coming weeks including large scale sites if that's required.

"Practices are being overwhelmed by the phone ringing. We will contact you and the more sites that come on stream, the more people will get their vaccine appointment and their invitation. If you do get that invitation, please do attend your appointment.

"Even if you receive the vaccination and you're one of the first few that gets that this week or in the next few weeks, you still need to comply with those measures. Protect yourselves and protect others. We need to make sure that we comply with the Government guidance of hands, face and space."
