It happened around 9.20am on Friday - at the Co-op on Beckfield Lane.
A man threatened a member of staff with a knife before leaving with cash and cigarettes.
A staff member suffered a cut to her hand during the incident.
Officers are carrying out enquiries to locate the suspect.
Anyone who was in the store on Friday night and has not yet spoken to the police is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
