It's the first full day in the job for Selby's new MP.

Kier Mathers inbox will already be filling up with a list of local issues constituents want him to sort out.

But he's told he's already got one job in mind: "The first thing that I am going to do is set up financial support centres, across this constituency, so that people can get the expert help they need, whether it's their mortgage bills, their energy bills or the price of food, people need support and I'm determined to deliver it from day one."

"My main priority will be supporting residents through the cost of living crisis, so with their mortgage rates, their energy bills and the price of food. I also want to make sure we have safe and reliable transport in this constituency and work with local people to make sure our NHS services are fit for the future."

Despite Labour being in opposition the new MP is determined that he can make a difference: "So I think you can deliver support for people on the ground so that's relating to the financial support hubs, but it's also making sure we can hold the Government to account for their record."
