Scarborough women to climb Ben Nevis for Thalia-Beau Foundation
The five-year-old girl died last year due to an extremely rare heart condition
A group of women from Scarborough have set themselves a fundraising challenge in memory of a little girl who died in the town.
They are trying to raise £2,000 for the Thalia-Beau Foundation by climbing Ben Nevis today (Sunday 22nd August).
Katie Newton, 43, is one of those taking part and she said:
"Sadly Thalia lost her life last August. She had quite a rare heart condition so not only are we wanting to raise money for the foundation that the family have set up, we also want to raise organ donation awareness as well.
"I do know the family and when Thalia was first diagnosed and they were looking for an organ donor, it was kind of a story that touched my heart because being a parent myself I just thought I couldn't imagine how devastating that would be.
"They're really trying to do something positive to remember Thalia by and obviously it's going to be a very, very difficult time this month and by us doing this, raising money, remember Thalia, keeping her at the forefront of everybody's mind will hopefully give them a little bit of comfort.
"I want to say that I am 100% raring to go but I have had a little bit of an injury recently, I am working through that but it'll be fine. Everyone's quite nervous but I think because we're so determined to hit our target, we're going to motivate each other and we will get up there. It's not a race for us. It's a big challenge."
