Scarborough and Whitby MP urges people to get their Covid vaccine
Robert Goodwill says protecting yourself will protect others.
The MP for Scarborough and Whitby is urging people to get their coronavirus vaccination.
It is due to rising numbers of cases across North Yorkshire due to the Delta variant first identified in India.
Robert Goodwill said:
"We know that the Delta variant first identified in India is much more infectious and therefore we would expect it to have spread; and also of course we've relaxed qutie a lot of the restrictions, knowing that the people who are the most vulnerable have in the main had their vaccinations so we would expect those levels to go up.
"It is important that everybody the under 30s, the over 18s do go and get their injections because you don't know if you're going to get long Covid, you don't know if you're going to be one of the very few in that age group who get the disease badly but most importantly by protecting yourself you're protecting others.
"It's important that everybody gets the jab and indeed if we do get even more virulent types of virus coming round, it would be a bit late if you haven't got the jab so the jab is working very well indeed and go and get your vaccination.
"I think in the same way the Kent variant was the last to arrive in places like Scarborough, as it's sort of travelled up the country and came out to the coast, we have been the last to see that but the vast marjoity of cases are the Delta variant and we need to be aware of that. It's much more infectious and some evidences, it may be more severe as well".
