People are being invited to support a fundraiser for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team next month.

Anyone who enters the 'Forest and Moors' challenge can do either a half-marathon or a 10k.

The charity, which helps emergency services, typically holds two fundraising events each year.

Ian Hugill, Incident Controller, said: "We haven't run it for two years because of Covid and the lockdown. We normally run two significant fundraising events each year which are the Ravenscar Coastal Half Marathon earlier on in the year and then in Autumn, the Forest and Moors and it's the latter that we're running on 11th of September.

"It's based at Adderson Field in Dalby Forest and some of the terrain is in the forest and some of it is up in the Moors and around about September time, the leaves are starting to turn, the Moors are at their best and it's a very scenic event as well as being quite challening.

"We're looking raising about £3,000 out of this. Our annual running costs for the team are in the order of about £45,000. We do get benefits from the genosity of our local community and businesses but if we can top that up with one of our challenging events, that'll see us through into the new year.

"Realistically, if we can't solve the problem, if we can't get you to definitive medical care then there isn't anybody else. So we're called almost as a last resort and thankfully we've responded to every incident we've been called to and most people have a satisfactory result to being found and rescued."
