Scarborough man celebrates 50 years of nursing in the NHS

A Scarborough nurse is celebrating after still working in the NHS after 50 years.
69 year-old David Wilson began his career in 1972 and spent 35 years at Scarborough Hospital and 10 years at Bridlington as a ward manager and duty site co-ordinator.
A quiet retirement was never on the cards, with David returning to his nursing vocation to support the national COVID vaccination effort, saying at the time “I thought I’d come back to support my colleagues, it was a great opportunity to help!”.
David has worked as the Vaccine Service Coordinator for the Scarborough Rugby Club vaccination effort in recently months, prior to the Rugby Club Clinic closing its doors.
David said: “I’m really proud to have made my 50-year milestone, the past two years weren’t what I expected when I originally retired, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’m honoured to have played my part in the vaccination effort alongside my dedicated and hard-working colleagues.”
Sally Brown, Clinical Managing Partner at Haxby Group Scarborough, who ran the Rugby Club vaccination clinic said: “We’re very fortunate as an NHS that we have such dedicated and committed teams. David having been in the NHS for 50 years proves that nursing really is a calling for life.”
