Scarborough charity to make Christmas food parcels
Gallows Close Centre is helping those in need this weekend
A charity in Scarborough is making Christmas food parcels for people in need this weekend.
Gallows Close Centre has packs for Christmas Eve as well as dinner ingredients for the big day itself.
Kimmie Avison, Chief Executive, said: "Our Christmas Eve parcels, which is for people over the age of 55, might be living on their own, they might not have any family members close by and with all these strikes, it might be that some people aren't even able to see their family because they don't live in the same town.
"They can be referred by a friend, neighbour or an organisation. In those little packs there's a turkey and stuffing sandwich, a mince pie, Christmas cake, there's chocolate biscuits, cards that local schoolchildren have made and Christmas tree ornaments.
"We will be working with a local supermarket who will be helping us to put the Christmas dinner parcels together, which is everything you need to make a Christmas dinner and all we'll do is just go and drop it on their doorstep and they cook it for themselves. We can't cook it for them.
"We started the Christmas dinner parcels and Christmas Eve parcels three years ago. It's been so successful and you can see how hugely it's been appreciated. Another little scheme we've actually added onto this year is the hub blankets, hats, scarves and gloves."
